Music Monday Jan 21st | Dealing with Imposter Syndrome

01/14/2019

Imposter syndrome is that feeling that some of us have at different points in our careers or lives (or both).

It’s the feeling that you aren’t totally qualified for your job or role, or that your success somehow isn’t valid or not really deserved and that everyone knows it. It’s believing you’re an imposter and waiting for that one person to expose you for the fraud you are to the world.

For an artist it can often take the form of ‘I’m not very good or special so I don’t know why hundreds of people are coming to hear me play.’ While Imposter Syndrome affects women more than men, it’s definitely heightened if you’re part of an underrepresented group.

For our first Music Monday of the 2019, we’re gonna talk about it! Join us at the Youth Ottawa space at Fifth + Bank at 6pm. The evening will start off with a set by local singer-songwriter Kelsey Hayes, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Alka Sharma.

6:00pm: Kelsey Hayes
6:30pm: Panel Discussion featuring Kelsey Hayes and Matías Muñoz. Moderator: Alka Sharma
