New York Jazz Pianist Ben Rosenblum debuts in Ottawa

Award-winning New York City jazz pianist Ben Rosenblum debuts in Ottawa with two performances, one at the Southminster United Church's “Doors Open for Music” midday Wednesday series, and the other at the Options Jazz Lounge at the Brookstreet Hotel.

These two concerts are part of an extended Canadian tour celebrating the release of his second trio album, River City, and will feature a combined band of highly acclaimed New York and Montreal musicians, including Rosenblum’s regular touring drummer Ben Zweig, as well as the Montreal-based Jonny Chapman on bass and special guest Sam Kirmayer on guitar.

Rosenblum has been described as “mature beyond his years,” (Sea of Tranquility), and as an “impressive talent” (All About Jazz) who “caresses [the music] with the reverence it merits” (Downbeat Magazine). Since the release of his debut album, Instead (4 stars, Downbeat), Rosenblum has toured with his trio throughout the United States, including lengthy tours of the Northeast, Midwest and West Coast, and internationally in Canada and Japan.

He was a featured soloist at Carnegie Hall's Stern-Perelman Auditorium with Maestro Reona Ito's New York Harmonic Band, and has appeared at prestigious venues throughout the world, including at the Appel Room at Lincoln Center, Kuumbwa Jazz Center, Ravinia, the Library of Congress and the Himawari-No-Sato Concert Hall in Yokohama. Rosenblum's special guest Sam Kirmayer, was ranked by CBC Music as one of the “35 best Canadian musicians under 35,” and his debut album, Opening Statement, won the Julian Award of Excellence for Emerging Canadian Jazz Artists from CJSF 90.1 FM. “Rosenblum displays complete mastery of the genre’s technical and emotional requirements . . . [and] pursues the music’s challenges with youthful daring," -Jack Walton, South Bend Tribune Watch the trio perform: Delilah (Victor Young): River City (Ben Rosenblum): Celia (Bud Powell): Thanks so much, and let me know if you need any other information.
