A Cool Dude | Director Peter D. Marshall

07/17/2018

In this edition of Outside Ottawa we want to aim the spotlight over to a pretty cool guy working in the Film and Television Industry on an international level, Director Peter D. Marshall.

Not only is Peter an established Film Director who has worked with Hollywood A List Actors/Actresses, he is also the instructor at the Vancouver Film Schools Shanghai China campus. On top of all this he is an author, a film consultant, mentor, coach and international workshop presenter.

Peter has delivered film workshops all over the globe including Port au Prince Haiti and Kuala Lumpur, just to name a few!

Usually when you meet a Director and someone with as much "clout" as Peter they come with an ego the size of a brontosaurus, but Peter is the exception, he is a very humble and kind human-being, something that is very rare to find in the film industry. I have never met a Film Director who would come to the studio located in the slums of Port au Prince Haiti and eat ham sandwiches with artists & chill with us while we make beats. He patiently observed and smiled through the sweltering heat, terrible roads, smells from the streets and burning garbage.

He gives so much to others around him and I am still trying to figure out what he gets out of it, the only explanation I am left with is that he simply enjoys what he does and is doing what he was designed to do in life.

In addition to all of this he publishes a monthly magazine called "The Directors Chair" and his film resource website "Action Cut Print" which offers Filmmaking tips for independent filmmakers, film resources, training and even a book store.

He has worked in the Film and TV industry for over 40 years: as a Film Director, Television Producer, First Assistant Director and Creative Consultant.

(See IMDb Credits.)

In 1999, he started ActionCutPrint.com as a film directing resource for Independent Filmmakers featuring online movie making courses, film directing articles, film and television books and filmmaking workshops.

In 2000, He started publishing his free monthly film making ezine, "The Director’s Chair" which is currently read by over 2400 filmmakers around the world.(You can read back issues here when you scroll down to the bottom of the page.)

He has developed several filmmaking workshops that he has presented over the past 18 years (Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, Haiti, Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Regina.)

If you are unable to get to China to get his help that's not an issue because he also offers Film Directing Coaching services via Skype.

So why hire him as your film directing coach? Along with his international teaching experience and 40 years of professional filmmaking experience (as a TV Director and Feature 1st AD), he has more than the necessary qualifications to help you achieve your dreams of being a creative and successful independent film director.

You can also learn from Peter by reading his new book "Making the Magic Happen: The Art and Craft of Film Directing" published by Michael Wiese Productions. You can preview the book on Amazon.com as well.
