Outside Ottawa | Introducing to Canada Multidisciplinary Artist - RODRIGO MIRTO of ARGENTINA

06/26/2017

I recently had the privilege of getting to know Artist Rodrigo Mirto during my time here in La Plata Buenos Aires Argentina. Rodrigo is one of three local artists I documented / interviewed for my new short film "PERSONAS DE LA PLATA / PEOPLE OF LA PLATA" I am screening July 1st here in La Plata at an exhibition Rodrigo is helping me to produce.

As many of you know artists tend to have a huge ego and are not willing to help other artists get ahead if they can not gain in some capacity, but Rodrigo is the opposite. For over a decade Rodrigo has come alongside and received artists in Argentina, he even took me to the grocery store to show me what to buy and not buy.

He has spent hours dealing with the artists who come, producing, curating and sometimes arguing with us because we use his kitchen cups for painting or give attitude.

He is a real, authentic person who hates drama and likes a good cigarette with his mate. It is my pleasure to present him as the first artist in the Outside Ottawa column for the Ottawa Arts News. The aim for this new column is to be a conduit connecting artists outside Ottawa with curators, galleries and residencies inside the National Capital Region.

My personal and ongoing desire is to open the doors for mutual exchange and collaboration with all of the artists I encounter. I find many artists do not get the recognition they deserve. I have lived a personal mantra for over a decade where ever I venture using my gifts, skills and mediums to showcase the works of others while I am on my own artistic journey. That said, here is a short interview with Rodrigo and some of his work to check out. After the first screening of my short film this Canada weekend here in Argentina I will post it up for you to see as well.
