Group of Seven: Graphically Speaking
Kathleen M. Fenwick Annual Memorial Lecture (in the Auditorium)

The artists who formed the Group of Seven have been lauded for introducing an iconic Canadian artistic expression.Within their collective body of work, their drawings and other graphic works reveal a deep engagement with their personal visions of nature and offer an intimate reflection of that legacy. Moreover, their inquiries within these graphic systems of representation extend to multiple subjects ranging from interpretations of small communities and satirical caricatures to reflections on the human condition. By revisiting the drawing activities and other graphic practices of the Group of Seven artists, we gain insight into their development of visual concepts as well as an alternative understanding of their legacy.
